Nanette Turner Kalcik Participates in Wichita Business Journal Career Women Discussion

Wichita, Kan. (May 5, 2022) - Wichita Partner Nanette Turner Kalcik recently participated in a Round Table discussion of women leaders in the community hosted by the Wichita Business Journal (WBJ) on April 28.

In a WBJ article titled “Career Women: Make personal development as intentional for yourself as others,” Ms. Kalcik spoke about how for her, personal development has to be as intentional as her work as an attorney.

“I have to treat my own personal development as if it is its own client,” she said. Noting the importance of the balance between providing excellent service to clients as well as devoting time and energy to the development of associates and direct reports, Ms. Kalcik opined that it is easy to put one’s own personal development on the backburner. Ms. Kalcik, who provides responsive and attentive service to her clients and manages a full caseload, still mentors young lawyers inside and outside of the firm because she believes in the importance of mentorship.

While work/life balance is frequently a topic of discussion, Ms. Kalcik identified the natural tendency to put one’s own professional development behind all other demands. Encouraging others to also take time to invest in themselves, she states, “If you don’t make yourself a priority in your own career, you can become stagnant and you lose the edge.”

Ms. Kalcik is a member of Lewis Brisbois' Labor & Employment and Complex Business & Commercial Litigation Practices. An experienced litigator and trial attorney, she represents a wide range of clients in a variety of matters, including complex civil litigation, commercial litigation, medical malpractice disputes, tort and personal injury actions, oil and gas litigation, employment disputes, class action claims, municipal law, financial services litigation, and consumer and mortgage finance law. She also provides employment counseling and pre-litigation advise to business entities. Ms. Kalcik was recently honored by WBJ at its "40 Under 40" Awards and in addition to inclusion in the prestigious group, she received the Pat Ayars Mentoring Award for her dedication to providing both formal and informal mentorship to the next generation of professionals. Ms. Kalcik is also a previous honoree of WBJ's Women Who Lead Legal (2021).
