Nanette Turner Kalcik Honored by Wichita Business Journal at "40 Under 40" Awards

Wichita, Kan. (April 19, 2022) – Wichita Partner Nanette Turner Kalcik was recently honored by the Wichita Business Journal (WBJ) at its 25th annual "40 Under 40" Awards, which took place during a banquet at the Hyatt Regency Wichita on April 12. In addition to her "40 under 40" recognition, she also received The Pat Ayars Mentoring Award for her efforts in mentoring young professionals in the legal industry.

The honorees of this year's awards were selected based on their leadership, community involvement in Wichita, and overall contributions to their respective organizations.

In a WBJ profile of award recipients, Ms. Kalcik spoke about her involvement in the Wichita community, where she resides with her husband and three children. A member of the Wichita Bar Association and her Homeowner’s Association Board, she has also held multiple former roles, including president of the Wichita Women Attorneys Association, a member of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training, program chair in the Wesley E. Brown Inn of Court, vice president of the Wichita Young Lawyers Association, and a member of the Writer’s Committee for the Wichita Bar Show.

Ms. Kalcik discussed how she sustained mental health throughout the COVID-19 pandemic while actively working as an attorney.

“We bought our home in May 2020, and it needed a major overhaul,” she said. “While it can be overwhelming at times, we have enjoyed making it our own. COVID sent us all home from the office and kept our kids out of school, so we spent more time together as a family than ever before. I am so thankful to have had them with me.”

In a letter to the WBJ nomination committee, Wichita Managing Partner Alan R. Rupe spoke about Ms. Kalcik’s mentorship work within the Wichita and Kansas City offices and leadership role at Lewis Brisbois.

“Although working with a full case load, unexpectedly homeschooling her children during COVID, and working remotely during office closures, Nanette volunteered to mentor additional associates following recent hires,” he said. “She invests her time in formal and informal mentorship relationships and her dedication is invaluable.”

When asked what Wichita can do to attract and retain young professionals, Ms. Kalcik said, “Nothing. I am a transplant; I moved here in 2008 when I accepted my first job out of law school, with U.S. District Judge Wesley E. Brown. Now we live here by choice. Wichita is a city with a small-town feel. We have so much to offer: arts and entertainment, events, museums, festivals, good schools, short commutes, and restaurants galore. All we need to do is make the offers. Wichita will speak for itself.”

Ms. Kalcik is a member of Lewis Brisbois' Labor & Employment and Complex Business & Commercial Litigation Practices. An experienced litigator and trial attorney, Ms. Kalcik represents a wide range of clients in a variety of matters, including complex civil litigation, commercial litigation, medical malpractice disputes, tort and personal injury actions, oil and gas litigation, employment disputes, class action claims, municipal law, financial services litigation, and consumer and mortgage finance law. Most recently, Ms. Kalcik guided her clients and their businesses successfully through the uncertainties and impacts of the pandemic.
