Former Top DOJ Cyber Attorney Enhances Capacity of Lewis Brisbois Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Team
New York, N.Y. (Jan. 7, 2019) – Lewis Brisbois is pleased to welcome Rich Goldberg to its New York and Philadelphia offices as a partner in the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice.
Goldberg comes to Lewis Brisbois from the U.S. Department of Justice, where for over 20 years, he served as a cyber attorney in the national Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section program. Goldberg has also served in several leadership positions in the Philadelphia U.S. Attorney’s Office. In those roles, he managed the investigation and prosecution of complex white collar and high-tech cases, including national security matters. Prior to serving as a cyber attorney for the DOJ, Goldberg served in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
“Rich has been a nationally respected leader with the Department of Justice — from teaching other federal prosecutors about how to investigate complex white collar and high-tech crime, to developing crisis management protocols and training for law enforcement organizations throughout the country,” said Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Chair Sean Hoar.
While at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Goldberg served as the crisis management coordinator for national special security events, including the papal visit in 2015, the 2016 Democratic National Convention, and the 2000 Republican National Convention. Goldberg has received numerous accolades from federal agencies, including the FBI and the Secret Service, for his leadership in managing complex investigations and prosecutions, often involving multiple federal agencies and jurisdictions.
“After years of leading the federal investigation and prosecution of complex white collar, cyber, and intellectual property crimes, I am excited to join the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Team at Lewis Brisbois, helping clients prepare for and respond to data security incidents.” Goldberg said. “The Wild West of the internet affords myriad bad actors the opportunity to threaten businesses and individuals and I am eager to use my experience to protect the victims of cyber attacks.”
“Rich’s experience in managing complex cyber and national security matters is unique and impressive – and his crisis management experience will complement the skillsets of our nationally recognized Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice,” said Philadelphia Managing Partner John Salvucci. “We are excited to have him on our team!”
In addition to his work with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Goldberg serves as a Lecturer in Law at the Villanova University School of Law, where he teaches Crime and Emerging Technology. He has also spoken extensively on topics related to cybersecurity.
“Rich’s credentials and experience are impressive. His crisis management and cyber experience will transfer perfectly to our national Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Team. We are glad to have Rich join our team, and I’m excited to have Rich join us in New York,” said New York Managing Partner Gregory S. Katz.
In joining the Lewis Brisbois Rapid Response Team, Goldberg will bring his unique and varied experience to a group that manages over 1,000 data security incidents annually and help the team continue to expand its national presence.
“Rich provides a calm and experienced perspective in finding solutions to complex problems,” Hoar said. “He will be a great teammate!”
