Chicago Team to Present on Inaugural Seminar for CBA’s New Biometric Information and Privacy Law Committee

Chicago, Ill. (February 7, 2024) – Chicago Partners Mark Guest and Mary A. Smigielski will present an introductory seminar for the Chicago Bar Association’s (CBA) newly formed Biometric Information and Privacy Law Committee on February 16 at 2:00 p.m. CT. Mr. Guest will serve as Chair of the new committee, and Ms. Smigielski will serve as a Vice Chair. 

Mr. Guest will moderate this informative 90-minute session, titled “Current Trends in Biometric Information and Privacy Law,” with Ms. Smigielski serving on the panel alongside Alejandro Caffarelli (Caffarelli & Associates, Ltd), Hon. Morton Denlow (JAMS), Joel Griswold (Baker Hostetler), and James Zouras (Stephan Zouras, LLP). The speakers will focus on current trends in Biometric Information and Privacy Law (BIPA) class actions in the aftermath of the Cothron Decision.

Mr. Guest is an experienced litigator and a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice. He has significant experience representing companies in individual discrimination and wage claims. He also defends companies against the increasing number of claims being brought under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).

Ms. Smigielski is the co-chair of Lewis Brisbois' BIPA Practice, the first in the nation, and head of the firm's Chicago Labor & Employment team. She has been on the cutting edge of BIPA litigation, frequently providing commentary to legal news outlets on the topic. Along with her BIPA work, Ms. Smigielski's practice involves class/collective actions and single-plaintiff employment litigation, administrative charges, nationwide counseling, training, and sensitive workplace investigations, including at the C-Suite level. She co-hosts Lewis Brisbois' BIPA Radar podcast.
