A.J. Harwin & Alecia Walters-Hinds to Present at 2024 CLM Annual Conference

San Francisco, Calif. (March 27, 2024) – Los Angeles Partner Alexander (A.J.) Harwin and New York Partner Alecia Walters-Hinds will present at the 2024 Claims Litigation Management (CLM) Conference, titled “Claims Unleashed,” in San Francisco on April 4.

Mr. Harwin will join a 60-minute session starting at 11:45 a.m., titled “Strategies to Undermine Employees Prosecuting Employment and Workers Comp Claims at the Same Time,” along with co-panelists Kristen Kaiser Kus (Downey & Lenkov LLC) and Stephanie Neuenfeldt (Employers Mutual Casualty Company). This seminar targets employment and workers' compensation professionals handling cases where employees make similar or contradictory claims against the same employer. It aims to equip attendees with strategies to leverage these claims against each other and mitigate risks and costs for insured employers.

Ms. Walters-Hinds will also join an informative 60-minute panel starting at 4:00 p.m., titled “In Defense of DEI: How the Courts Are Being Used to Attack Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” along with co-panelists Robert Kopka (Kopka Pinkus Dolin) and Caryn Siebert (Gallagher Bassett Services, Inc.). This panel will analyze legal challenges to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, focusing on new lawsuits targeting DEI practices in state governments, law firms, and corporations. They will also discuss the justification for upholding DEI practices, opposing arguments, and propose strategies to uphold DEI principles within existing legal frameworks.

Mr.  Harwin is a vice-chair of the Hospitality Practice and a member of the Labor & Employment Practice. He concentrates his practice in all aspects of labor, employment and business litigation and counseling matters. He has extensive experience defending businesses involving claims of sexual harassment; age, disability, race, religious and national origin discrimination and harassment; wrongful termination; contract disputes; defamation; invasion of privacy; wage and hour and training.

Ms. Walters-Hinds is a vice-chair of the firm's General Liability Practice. She specializes in handling high exposure and catastrophic injury matters in a range of practice areas, including medical malpractice, toxic tort, construction, transportation, and more. She is also the Immediate Past President of the New York City Chapter of American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
