Mark Oertel to Speak at National Bond Claims Association Seminar on Modular Construction

Los Angeles, Calif. (September 3, 2021) – Los Angeles Partner Mark A. Oertel will present a session on the impact of modular construction on the construction industry at National Bond Claims Association Annual Meeting on Friday, October 15 at 9:15 a.m. ET. Hosted at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina, this three-day conference will run from October 12-15.

In a 30-minute session titled “Introduction to Modular Construction 101: The Future is Now,” Mr. Oertel and his co-presenter will elaborate on the recent rapid expansion of modular construction into the hospitality industry, multi-family housing, education, student housing, assisted living, and low-income public housing. They will also discuss the benefits of modular construction, which include speed to market, consistent quality, budget certainty, reduced risk, quiet construction, and green design.

Modular construction is the process in which a building is constructed off-site under controlled conditions, using the same materials and designing to the same codes and standards as conventionally built facilities, but in approximately half the time. It has been a recent investment darling for both Wall Street and private hedge funds, but it also presents challenges and risks which Mr. Oertel and his co-presenter will address.

With over 350 members, The National Bond Claims Association hosts this annual insurance industry seminar aimed at surety and fidelity bond claim handlers. CLE credits are available.

Mr. Oertel is chair of Lewis Brisbois' Surety and Fidelity Practices, and has more than 30 years of experience in the areas of surety, fidelity, insurance law, professional liability, construction, and commercial disputes. He handles contract surety disputes involving all phases of payment and performance bond claims, litigation and recovery, fidelity bond claims and employee dishonesty claims.
