Laura Lopez to Moderate OCBA Program on Prohibition of Surprise Medical Bills

Orange County, Calif. (May 3, 2024) – Orange County Associate Laura Lopez will moderate a panel on recent prohibitions of surprise medical bills at an upcoming Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) Health Care Law Section Meeting, hosted in conjunction with the Orange County Asian American Bar Association on May 9 at 11:00 a.m. PT.

In this informative 60-minute session, titled "No Surprises! Federal and State Prohibitions on Surprise Medical Bills," the speakers will discuss recent federal and California laws that prohibit surprise medical bills in situations where the consumer most likely did not choose their provider - emergency services, unexpected non-emergency services, and air ambulance services. This program will also discuss new California legislation, effective January of this year, that extended surprise billing protections to ground ambulance services. Ms. Lopez will be joined by speakers Jenni Katzer of UnitedHealthcare and Kathy Nichols of Carlson & Jayakumar LLC. CLE credits are available.

Ms. Lopez is a member of the Construction Practice, and Chair for the OCBA Health Care Law Section. She was recently featured in the OC Lawyer Magazine “Who’s Who In The OCBA” alongside Partner Matthew Cox, who serves as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Section.
