Charles S. Painter is a partner in the Sacramento office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Labor & Employment Practice.

During his career, Mr. Painter has handled cases involving many different aspects of civil litigation. He is AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He has successfully litigated numerous high exposure cases in both state and federal courts. He has successfully tried numerous civil jury trials to verdict as well as bench trials and arbitrations. 

He practices in federal and state court in cases involving wrongful termination, discrimination and harassment, disability claims, defamation, privacy, and wage and hour claims. He also represents employers before numerous federal and state agencies including the U.S. Department of Labor, California Labor Commissioner, California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (“DFEH”) and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”).

Early in his career he successfully defended the first “failure to warn” pharmaceutical products liability case to be tried to verdict in the United States on the issue of whether aspirin causes Reye’s syndrome. He has litigated complex business litigation and class action lawsuits. He has successfully defended wrongful death trucking accident cases in civil jury trials.

Additionally, his practice has included commercial business litigation, products liability, professional errors and omissions of healthcare practitioners, real estate brokers and agents and lawyers. He lectures on a variety of legal topics, including document retention and electronic discovery.

He and Marcia raised two wonderful children and reside in Fair Oaks, California with their dogs, Hobbes and Pippin. They are both avid backpackers.
