Lewis Brisbois offers its clients counsel experienced in handling all facets of surety practice from its offices throughout the United States. Our attorneys have successfully represented clients in resolving contract and commercial surety, and issues ranging from simple license bonds to complex multi state contract surety defaults. Our attorneys have experience handling surety matters in mediation, arbitration, state, and federal courts, as well as appellate courts, including United States Circuit Courts.

Contract Surety

Our attorneys have experience in resolving all facets of payment and performance bond defaults. We represent clients in resolving and litigating subcontractor and materialmen claims, mechanic liens and stop notices. Our performance bond experience includes all aspects of investigation, take over, tender, and project completion. Additionally, we have experience in resolving indemnity and recovery cases as well as defending extra contractual issues arising out of surety and fidelity.

Commercial Surety

Our commercial surety practice includes:

  • License and permit bonds, including notary and notary errors and omissions policies;
  • Motor vehicle dealer bonds;
  • Motor vehicle title bonds;
  • Contractor license bonds;
  • Insurance broker bonds;
  • Auctioneer bonds;
  • Bankruptcy trustee bonds;
  • Public official bonds;
  • Probate bonds, including conservatorship, executor, and trustee bonds.

Members of our firm are actively involved in several national and local fidelity and surety organizations. In particular, the firm supports and is a member of the American Bar Association, Tort and Insurance Practice Section Fidelity and Surety Law Committee, the Surety and Fidelity Claims Institute, the Los Angeles Surety Claims Association, and the National Bonds Claims Association.
