Jeffrey Hawkins is a partner and trial attorney in the New York office of Lewis Brisbois. Mr. Hawkins’ litigation practice areas include construction, labor law, medical malpractice, healthcare, medical device, products liability, dram shop, hospitality, property damage, transportation (both personal and commercial), long-term care/nursing home, and general litigation.

In his construction and labor law practice, Mr. Hawkins represents building owners, general contractors, and subcontractors, as well as elevator/product manufacturers and crane companies, against high exposure claims.

In his medical malpractice and healthcare practice, Mr. Hawkins regularly defends physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers against complex medical malpractice matters. Cases he has successfully defended include a full range of claims, from infant brain damage to quadriplegia, to failure to diagnose terminal medical conditions and wrongful death. Mr. Hawkins has represented physicians practicing in a multitude of medical specialties, including gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, oncology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, radiology, infectious disease, orthopedic surgery, neurology, and vascular surgery. He also defends emergency room doctors and staff, as well as physicians in hearings before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct.

Regardless of the subject matter, Mr. Hawkins takes a hands-on approach from the inception of the case through resolution. From initial investigation/liability and causation analysis, to selectively retaining the highest quality expert witnesses, to carefully extracting strategic deposition testimony, Mr. Hawkins ensures to focus his defense approach with the ultimate goal of achieving the most favorable outcome for his clients – whether through motion practice, mediation, arbitration, advantageous settlement, or trial.

Mr. Hawkins is admitted to practice in all New York state courts, as well as New York and Connecticut federal courts. He is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York City Trial Lawyers Association, and the New York State Bar Association.
