Jason Berger Speaks With Billboard Pro For Article on Positive Effects of Music Leaks

Philadelphia, Pa. (November 16, 2023) – Philadelphia Partner Jason Berger recently spoke with Billboard Pro for an article titled, “Music Leaks Have Become More Common — But Less Harmful.” The article discusses the recent uptick in the premature disclosure of songs and albums, as well as the positive impact that leaks may have upon the popularity of artists’ material. 

Mr. Berger told Billboard Pro that leaking music is “pervasive,” but that this premature disclosure does not necessarily cause damage. “What I don’t see as much as I did a couple years ago is leaks ruining a future release,” he explained. Moreover, Mr. Berger noted that a music or album leak may actually benefit the artist. He described that when a producer client is involved in a leak, his team immediately reaches out to the artist to ask, “Are you guys in on it?” Even if the artist was not responsible for the leak, the artist may choose to allow the prematurely disclosed material to circulate for the purpose of exciting fans. Mr. Berger described, “[T]here have been instances where we’ve hit the artist’s team, and they said, ‘let’s let that [leak] live for two weeks — and then see where we are.’”
