Rosa Maria Leon
Rosa Maria Leon is an associate in the Phoenix office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Labor & Employment and Collegiate & Professional Sports Law Practices.
Rosa focuses her practice on representing professional sports teams in the United States. She has experience working with NBA teams and professional soccer teams on a range of legal issues, including employment, compliance, and risk management. Rosa is also a developing thought leader in the space and has published an article on Title IX as it pertains to college athletes.
Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, Rosa worked with soccer players and clubs in providing interpretations of collective bargaining agreements, and she provided counsel on compliance of league policies. Rosa has experience in drafting club policies and building compliance programs for newly created professional soccer teams in the United States.
Rosa is a first-generation lawyer in her family. She immigrated to the United States from Guatemala, and she is an active mentor to Latina law students who are interested in a career in sports. While in law school, Rosa was on the Board of Directors for the National Latino/a Law Students Association. She also founded the Latinx Law Students Association at the University of Mississippi. Additionally, Rosa is a leader in the developing sports law sector of the Hispanic National Bar Association, and she is currently hosting traveling networking events to build the Latino/a legal work force within the sports industry.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Rosa was a professional soccer athlete in Germany, rising through the youth academy and being elevated to the first team. Rosa also briefly played in Guatemala. In her free time, she loves traveling to check out new sports venues, and on Sunday mornings she religiously watches the English Premier League with a cup of coffee.
