New York Team to Present Webinar on Recent Important Appellate Decisions & Expected Impact on N.Y. Litigation

Lewis Brisbois is pleased to present our upcoming Appellate Webinar, “Recent Important Appellate Decisions & Their Expected Impact on New York Litigation,” taking place Wednesday, April 19 at 3:00 p.m. ET, hosted by New York Partners Nicholas P. Hurzeler and Kristen Carroll and Associate Dean Pillarella.

New York, N.Y. (March 31, 2023) – Lewis Brisbois is pleased to present our upcoming Appellate Webinar, “Recent Important Appellate Decisions & Their Expected Impact on New York Litigation,” taking place Wednesday, April 19 at 3:00 p.m. ET, hosted by New York Partners Nicholas P. Hurzeler and Kristen Carroll and Associate Dean Pillarella.

The trio will discuss appellate decisions from the second quarter of 2023, as well as new general liability case law in New York. The panel will focus on new decisional law, and will share updated recommendations and best practices for pre-answer motions and early motions for summary judgment, specifically with respect to the Child Victims Act and the Graves Amendment. They will also discuss new decisions regarding sustainable awards and the state's Labor Law, as well as notable decisions from New York’s Appellate Divisions and the Court of Appeals from the first quarter of 2023. CLE credits are available.

Mr. Hurzeler is a Vice Chair of Lewis Brisbois' Appellate Practice. He focuses on appellate work, motions, and trials and has briefed and argued over 130 appeals in the New York State Appellate Divisions and Second Circuit Court of Appeals, with a strong track record of success.

Ms. Carroll is a member of the Appellate Practice. She briefs and argues appeals in the First and Second Departments of New York’s Appellate Divisions, and writes motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and complex discovery motions at the lower court level for general liability lawyers. During her time at Pace Law School, she served as Editor-in-Chief of Pace International Law Review and was Co-Chair of the Moot Court Honor Board. 

Mr. Pillarella is an associate in the New York office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Appellate Practice. Mr. Pillarella primarily drafts and argues substantive motions and appeals in the New York trial and appellate courts in general liability, Labor Law, premises liability, products liability, professional liability, sexual abuse/misconduct, and transportation matters, among others.
