New York, N.Y. (February 23, 2023) – New York Partner Alecia Walters-Hinds and Hartford Managing Partner Angeline Ioannou will speak at the Annual CLM Conference, hosted at the JW Marriott in Tampa from March 29 to 31.

First on Thursday, March 30 at 10:30 a.m. ET, Ms. Walters-Hinds will join a panel discussion titled "Handle with Care: Special Considerations in Investigating Wrongful Death Cases." She will explore the pre-suit steps that should be taken by claims, risk managers, insured, and assigned counsel when investigating a death-related claim. Additional topics include how to avoid hurting the case by looking at potential issues and whether or not to terminate an employee accused of wrongdoing, what to preserve, and evaluating claims when not all the information is available, including the conscious pain and suffering and who will sue.

Then at 2:00 p.m. ET, Ms. Ioannou will join a panel, titled "IS the Customer Always Right? Not When They’re Wrong: Handling Bias-Based Service Refusal." The panelists will discuss various bias-related litigation that has arisen in healthcare settings, the issues it raises to most service providers, including legal associates and claims professionals who may also be subject to clients/insureds who refuse to work with them based upon bias. They will also focus on the many ethical and legal issues surrounding this fact pattern and share examples of litigation outcomes.

Ms. Walters-Hinds is a vice-chair of the firm's General Liability Practice. She specializes in handling high exposure and catastrophic injury matters in a range of practice areas, including medical malpractice, toxic tort, construction, transportation, and more. She is also the Immediate Past President of the New York City Chapter of American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).

She has more than 20 years of litigation experience and extensive practice defending complex tort and commercial liability claims, involving wrongful death and catastrophic injuries, and professional malpractice claims on behalf of nursing homes, physicians, and nurses.
