Lewis Brisbois Trial Partners to Speak at DTCI Annual Conference

Northwest Indiana Partners Renee J. Mortimer, Scott B. Cockrum and Ami T. Anderson, along with Los Angeles Partner Eric Y. Kizirian, will speak at the upcoming Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana (DTCI) Annual Conference, hosted at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City on November 17-18.

Indianapolis, Ind. (October 18, 2022) – Northwest Indiana Partners Renee J. Mortimer, Scott B. Cockrum and Ami T. Anderson, along with Los Angeles Partner Eric Y. Kizirian, will speak at the upcoming Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana (DTCI) Annual Conference, hosted at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City on November 17-18.

Mr. Cockrum, who was elected Treasurer of DTCI earlier this year, will serve as conference chair for this two-day CLE event. Ms. Anderson will join the opening panel of the event on November 17 at 10:00 a.m. CT, titled “Current Trends and Hot Topics in Medical Malpractice & Health Law Litigation,” which will cover application of the COVID-19 Immunity Statute and the expansion of mass torts in medical malpractice law.

Mr. Kizirian will join a panel moderated by Mr. Cockrum on November 18 at 9:00 a.m. titled “The Interplay Between Insurer and Counsel in Complex Claims.” Subsequently, Ms. Mortimer will moderate a panel titled “Tips from the Bench – Making Connections with Judges, Juries, and Witnesses,” at 11:00 a.m., where she will be joined by esteemed judges from the Indiana Court of Appeals, LaPorte Superior Court, and Lake Superior Court.

Ms. Mortimer is a vice-chair of Lewis Brisbois' General Liability Practice and a member of its Transportation Practice. She defends clients against large and excess personal injury and property damage claims in state and federal courts in Indiana and Illinois. As a member of the firm's 24/7 Rapid Response Team, Ms. Mortimer frequently handles matters concerning major trucking accidents, including managing incidents on-scene and successfully litigating cases to verdict.

Mr. Cockrum has extensive experience handling professional liability claims in state and federal courts in Indiana, including ones involving the defense of architects, engineers, lawyers, accountants, surveyors, property managers, and realtors. He frequently represents physicians and nursing homes in medical malpractice claims, and is experienced in defending products liability and general liability claims.  

Mr. Kizirian is co-chair of the Class Action & Mass Tort and Consumer Warranty Practices, and vice-chair of the Lithium-Ion Battery Practice. He specializes in defending class actions and complex litigation across the United States. Mr. Kizirian has litigated class action issues in the United States Supreme Court, in federal and state appellate courts, and various district and state courts across the country.  

Ms. Anderson has an extensive and diverse litigation practice, and she frequently appears before both Indiana state and federal courts as well as the Indiana Workers' Compensation Board. She represents defendants in a variety of matters including general liability, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, professional liability, products liability and workers' compensation matters.
