Los Angeles, Calif. (June 23, 2022) - Lewis Brisbois is proud to be sponsoring the National LGBTQ+ Bar Foundation’s 2022 Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair, which will take place in Los Angeles, California on July 27-29, 2022.

The Lavender Law event, which is the largest LGBTQ legal conference in the country, includes workshops for LGBTQ legal professionals and allies, panel discussions, in-depth "Practice Area Institutes," career-planning sessions for law students and lateral candidates, as well as a large career fair with more than 400 law students expected to attend. Participants will also have extensive networking opportunities.

In addition to sponsoring this event, Houston Partner Jonathan Cavanagh was personally invited to attend the conference with several Lewis Brisbois colleagues by the LGBTQ+ Bar's incoming president Travis Torrence (Global Litigation Bankruptcy & Credit Team Lead at Shell)

"I was honored when Travis invited me to take part in the Lavender Law Conference this year," said Mr. Cavanagh. "We have been friends for several years and worked together on previous committees in Houston. As the incoming president, he reached out to facilitate my connection with the larger group as well as extend an invitation to the firm to take part in a more comprehensive fashion this year for the conference."

"I was also delighted when I learned that [Chief Diversity Partner] Rima [Badawiya] and the firm’s DEI [Diversity, Equity & Inclusion] Committee had made attendance and sponsorship of this event a priority for Pride Month," Mr. Cavanagh added. "It has been incredibly rewarding to be part of a firm that supports mentorship, allyship, and support for the LGBTQ community and the professionals within that community. I am honored to take part in this event, and sincerely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the firm’s platform in supporting the community."

As described on Lavender Law’s website, “[s]ince its inception in 1988, Lavender Law has served as a ‘family reunion’ for LGBTQ+ and ally legal professionals to both look back at our shared history and to look forward to the future of the legal profession.” More than 1,700 participants attend each year.

Lewis Brisbois’ sponsorship of this event complements its commitment to promoting LGBTQ equity, inclusion, and acceptance throughout the firm’s nationwide network and the legal profession. Through the work of the firm's LBGTQ Affinity Group, its Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, diversity leaders, as well as its individual lawyers and business professionals, Lewis Brisbois is dedicated to promoting firmwide education and awareness of diversity and its ability to enrich our workplace, our communities, our profession, and our everyday lives.
