Mary Smigielski, Stephen Sitley to Present Lawline Webinar on 2021 Labor & Employment Law Issues

Chicago Partners Mary A. Smigielski and Stephen L. Sitley will present a Lawline webinar on February 4 at 2:00 p.m. CT, titled "2021 Labor and Employment Law Update." The session will provide an overview of significant new laws and trends nationally, both at the federal and state level. 

Chicago, Ill. (January 29, 2021) - Chicago Partners Mary A. Smigielski and Stephen L. Sitley will present a Lawline webinar on February 4 at 2:00 p.m. CT, titled "2021 Labor and Employment Law Update." The session will provide an overview of significant new laws and trends nationally, both at the federal and state level. 

During this 60-minute course, Ms. Smigielski and Mr. Sitley will cover the recent changes to the EEOC conciliation process, questions about the status of independent contractors, cannabis use and employment, mandatory sexual harassment trainings, and the use of biometric data from employees. They will also discuss the latest on COVID-19 issues in the workplace, including mandatory vaccination requirements, workplace safety for returning employees, and COVID-19-related leave and accommodations policies. Finally, the program will touch on continued remote work concerns, such as wage and hour issues, expense reimbursement, performance management, cybersecurity, trade secrets or confidential/ proprietary business information, and tax issues with different states.

Ms. Smigielski is the head of Lewis Brisbois' Chicago Labor & Employment Practice, and co-chair of the firm’s Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) Practice. She handles class/collective actions and single-plaintiff employment litigation, administrative charges, nationwide counseling, training, and sensitive workplace investigations, including at the C-Suite level. Ms. Smigielski has been on the cutting-edge of the defense of class action litigation brought against employers and others under BIPA, and works closely with national insurance carriers and private clients for defense, compliance and mitigation of risk related to BIPA.

Mr. Sitley has over three decades of experience as a labor and employment attorney and commercial litigator. He previously served as SVP, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of a $22B Fortune 100 corporation with international scope and 27 separate business divisions, overseeing all legal affairs. Mr. Sitley is highly skilled in delivering practical, business-focused advice and advising C-Suite leaders and boards of directors on all company legal aspects, including governance, financing transactions, procurement, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, litigation, employment, IP, marketing, privacy matters, and information security.
