Abby Swanson Garney
Abby Swanson Garney is an associate in the Portland office of Lewis Brisbois. As a member of the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Compliance Advisory Services team, she advises clients on strategies to develop and strengthen their privacy programs to meet their unique business needs and comply with a complex emerging framework of privacy laws including the CCPA and GDPR. Abby drafts policies, procedures, technology agreements, incident response plans, data subject access request policies, and other elements of a robust privacy program to help clients proactively manage risk. Abby has counseled clients on containment of cybersecurity events through analysis of forensic evidence, remediation of client systems, and compliance with resulting legal obligations. Abby also provides advice to clients on building and maintaining successful trademark protection strategies both in the United States and internationally. Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, Abby counseled clients on general business issues and transactions.
While in law school at the University of Minnesota, Abby served as a privacy and security law clerk for a national technology retailer. She also served as a research assistant to Professor William McGeveran, drafting updates to Privacy and Data Protection Law, Second Edition regarding developments in domestic and international privacy law.
She holds the CIPP/United States (CIPP/US) and CIPP/Europe (CIPP/E) credentials.
