Jane Luxton Testifies Before House Committee on Energy & Commerce Regarding PFAS Legislation

Washington, D.C. (May 15, 2019) – Washington D.C. Partner and Co-Chair of Lewis Brisbois’ Environmental & Administrative Law Practice Jane C. Luxton testified today before the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce, in regards to several pieces of proposed legislation aimed at regulating perfluorinated chemical substances (PFAS). The hearing, which took place at 10:30 a.m. in the Rayburn House Office Building, was titled “Protecting Americans at Risk of PFAS Contamination & Exposure.”

Ms. Luxton provided an opening statement and answered questions from representatives on the subcommittee, sharing her knowledge and experience with PFAS litigation as an environmental and administrative law attorney. She was joined by several other witnesses with connections to PFAS, including a municipal water treatment manager, a professor of biological sciences, and representatives from non-profit agencies.

Ms. Luxton, along with fellow Washington, D.C. colleagues Partner William Walsh and Associate Amanda Tharpe, recently published a legal alert on this topic, titled “Perfluorinated Chemicals: A Rapidly Evolving Regulatory and Legal Risk Issue for Business,” which reviewed federal and state action on PFAS, as well as the state of PFAS litigation. This publication caught the eye of the subcommittee, which led to a formal invitation for Ms. Luxton to testify.
