Lewis Brisbois Boosts Antitrust Practice With Washington D.C. Partner Hire, New Office

Washington, D.C. (January 25, 2019) – Lewis Brisbois has hired Washington, D.C. antitrust lawyer Katherine I. Funk as a partner in its Antitrust & Competition Practice. Ms. Funk will open up the Washington, D.C. office of the nationwide, full-service law firm on February 1st, as co-managing partner alongside Todd R. Seelman, managing partner of Lewis Brisbois’ Denver office, and chair of both Lewis Brisbois’ Antitrust & Competition Practice and its Government Investigations Practice.

For more than 20 years, Ms. Funk has been a trusted advisor to corporate executives and in-house legal departments, successfully navigating antitrust and business issues on behalf of clients in a range of industries. She has participated in over 100 transactions requiring review by the Department of Justice (DOJ) or Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

In addition to major transactions work, Ms. Funk also provides day-to-day business counsel on matters including distribution arrangements, the Robinson-Patman Act, licensing agreements and global corporate compliance.

“Lewis Brisbois has terrific antitrust credentials nationally and I’m excited to officially bring the firm into the D.C. market,” said Ms. Funk.

In healthcare, Ms. Funk has worked with clients on the formation and operation of clinically integrated networks, the buying and selling of provider practices and healthcare system transactions.

While Lewis Brisbois is well represented along the Eastern Seaboard (the firm recently announced the opening of an office in Charlotte, North Carolina), the new office in Washington, D.C. allows the firm to better service its clients with matters before federal agencies. It also enables Lewis Brisbois to provide its full range of legal services to clients in and around the nation’s capital.

“Our D.C. office will initially focus on adding lawyers with expertise including antitrust, securities, FCPA, IP disputes, FDA and international trade law,” Mr. Seelman said. “Over time, the office will develop a full slate of services to include many of the firm’s specialty practice areas.” 

Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, Ms. Funk was a partner at several AmLaw 100 firms in Washington D.C., and served at the FTC as an attorney in the Mergers 1 section. She received her undergraduate degree in accounting and economics from Creighton University and her law degree, with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law.
