Thomas Mannion, Mark Oertel to Speak at Virtual CLM Construction Conference

(September 1, 2020) – Cleveland Managing Partner Thomas P. Mannion and Los Angeles Partner Mark A. Oertel will both join virtual panels at the 2020 CLM Construction Conference taking place from September 29 to October 1.

Mr. Oertel’s panel, titled “West – Have You Looked at Your Balcony Lately?” will take place on Wednesday, September 30 at 3:30 p.m. This discussion will cover notable wood structure collapses from around the country, including California’s response to the collapse of a cantilevered balcony in Berkeley that resulted in the death of six people. The panelists will also review which types of structures must be inspected, how frequently these inspections should take place, and potential liabilities for the inspector.

Mr. Mannion’s discussion, titled “Handling Large Loss GL Construction and the Use of an Accident Recon and Experts,” will take place on Thursday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Mannion and his panelists will address CAT losses and immediate responses, and provide tips on establishing an attorney/client relationship and investigation, assembling the early expert team, and more.

Mr. Mannion is the vice-chair of Lewis Brisbois' Architects & Engineers Practice, and a member of the firm's Healthcare, Medical Malpractice, Products Liability, and Toxic Tort & Environmental Litigation Practices. He has developed a reputation as one of the nation’s top catastrophic injury defense trial lawyers.
