Steven Lee Speaks with Law360 About Bringing Prosecutorial Experience to New Role at Lewis Brisbois
Atlanta, Ga. (June 16, 2022) - Atlanta Partner and Vice-Chair of Lewis Brisbois’ Government Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice Steven Lee recently spoke with Law360 Pulse for an article about how his experience as a prosecutor will help him advise clients and be a leader in his practice.
Mr. Lee, who joined Lewis Brisbois earlier this month, told Law360 that in his role as a prosecutor, matters involving national security violations and trade secret theft were the most complex, fascinating, and gratifying. “I was proud to be part of the team when we prosecuted the first national security cases in the Southern District of Georgia," Steven said. "Being able to help protect the national security interests of our country was definitely one of the highlights of my career.”
Moreover, in describing the healthcare fraud matters that he handles in his practice at Lewis Brisbois, Mr. Lee noted that these cases “are like any other type of fraud case” and “you have to follow the paper trail.“ He added, “Oftentimes in these matters, whether it’s healthcare fraud, trade secret, or national security matters, you have to pore over hundreds, if not thousands of lines of data that might be contained in electronic form or paper form.” On this point, Mr. Lee discussed his experience helping to prosecute a defendant on felony charges that she defrauded Medicaid. “When we found out Medicaid was defrauded, we also realized that there are real victims, because the money allocated to children with mental health issues had been taken away from them and paid out to fraudsters.”
In addition, Mr. Lee shared why he was drawn to Lewis Brisbois. “The opportunity to expand the practice in Atlanta was exciting for me. . . . Given my experience prosecuting health care fraud in Atlanta and serving as a federal prosecutor in Georgia, an opportunity like that, given my entrepreneurial spirit, seemed like a good opportunity.”
