Steven Beer and Rip Beyman to Present at Lake Placid Film Festival on Post-Pandemic Distribution, Legal Elements of Production

New York, N.Y. (October 14, 2021) – New York Partners Steven C. Beer and Richard A. Beyman will present two sessions on the legal elements essential to film production and rethinking film distribution post-pandemic at the upcoming Lake Placid Film Festival in New York's Adirondack Region on Friday, October 22. 

In a session at 11:30 a.m. titled “Film Law Basics (10 Things You Need to Know Before You Produce Your Film),” Mr. Beer and Mr. Beyman will address rights acquisitions and film production agreements, with a focus on the material deal points common to most independent film contracts. 

In a following session at 2:30 p.m. titled “Rethinking Film Distribution in a Post-Pandemic Landscape,” the pair will provide an overview of the changing landscape for distributing independent films and discuss the range of options available to filmmakers for the distribution of their content. They will also discuss the increasing role of streaming independent films. 

The Lake Placid Film Festival is an annual October event by Adirondack Film, an organization that presents high-quality independent, art, foreign language, documentary, and high-end studio films not typically shown at major multiplex screens.  

Mr. Beer is a National Co-Chair of Lewis Brisbois' Entertainment, Media & Sports Practice. He concentrates his practice on film, television, and music matters, representing industry-leading film, television, and music companies. He has acted as counsel to numerous award-winning writers, directors, producers, and multi-platinum musical artists, and regularly negotiates rights deals for film and television projects. 

Mr. Beyman is a partner in the New York office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Entertainment, Media & Sports Practice. He has comprehensive entertainment industry experience in transactions of all types and across all media and platforms.  He counsels producer clients in strategic planning and negotiation from rights acquisition through development to financing, production and distribution.  He represents and negotiates agreements on behalf of creative talent, artists, and executives.
