Sean Hoar Receives Linfield University 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award
Portland, Ore. (September 27, 2021) – Portland Partner Sean B. Hoar is the 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient from his undergraduate alma mater, Linfield University. He was selected for his leadership in managing responses to digital crises and data breaches nationally and internationally. He will be recognized for the award at an annual alumni awards ceremony called Linfield’s Finest on Friday evening, October 8th, 2021.
A graduate of Linfield’s Class of 1980, Mr. Hoar received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Psychology, participated in NCAA football, baseball and served as student body president. Following graduation at Linfield, he went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University. After working as an Assistant Director of Residential and Judicial Affairs at Vanderbilt University, he earned his law degree from the University of Oregon.
In a conversation with Linfield University, Mr. Hoar said that it is immediately “humbling and fulfilling” to receive this recognition, and that his “best work is reflected in the success of diverse teams I have helped to develop, whose collective talents have found excellence.”
Mr. Hoar is chair of Lewis Brisbois' Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice. He has extensive experience managing responses to digital crises and effectively marshaling resources to contain and remediate information security incidents. He holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), the Global Information Security Professional (GISP), and the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credentials. Before joining Lewis Brisbois, Mr. Hoar served as the lead cyber attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oregon, and has worked closely with the Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section in Washington D.C. He is a frequent speaker and writer on emerging cybersecurity issues and regular contributor to Lewis Brisbois' Digital Insights blog.
