Paul Kisslinger Speaks with Bloomberg Law About SEC’s Suit Against Binance
Washington, D.C. (June 6, 2023) – Washington D.C. Partner and Chair of Lewis Brisbois’ SEC Enforcement & Litigation Practice Paul W. Kisslinger recently spoke with Bloomberg Law for an article titled, “SEC Sues Binance and CEO Zhao for Breaking Securities Rules.” The article discusses the lawsuit that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed against the world’s biggest crypto exchange and its CEO.
As the article explains, the SEC’s 136-page complaint alleges that Binance and its CEO Changpeng Zhao mishandled customer funds, misled investors and regulators, and broke securities rules. The case follows a lawsuit filed in March by the U.S. derivatives watchdog alleging that Binance and Zhao routinely broke its rules.
In discussing the case, Mr. Kisslinger told Bloomberg Law, “The suit shows that the SEC is not afraid to take on the biggest players in this space. . . . It seems to me they’re broadening their scope each time they bring a new crypto case.”
Mr. Kisslinger joined Lewis Brisbois earlier this year as chair of its SEC Enforcement & Litigation Practice after spending almost two decades with the SEC, most recently as its assistant chief litigation counsel. He also serves as co-chair of the firm's Securities Class Action Defense Practice. Mr. Kisslinger has extensive experience in the private and public sectors successfully guiding clients through the choppy waters of regulatory enforcement actions brought by securities and other financial services regulators, internal and external investigations, and legislative inquiries.
