Nanette Turner Kalcik Participates in WBJ Career Women Roundtable

Wichita, Kan. (May 18, 2022) - Wichita Partner Nanette Turner Kalcik recently participated in a Career Women Roundtable about approaching salary negotiations, hosted by the Wichita Business Journal (WBJ) on May 13. 

In a WBJ article titled “Career Women: Bring data, accomplishments to salary conversations,” Ms. Kalcik discussed the importance of tracking “non-tangibles” when approaching a salary or raise negotiation. This includes work that benefitted the organization beyond standard billable hours, such as taking the time to provide valuable mentorship to associates. 

Ms. Kalcik also talked about the importance of recognizing whether you are someone who “lives to work” or “works to live” before entering these conversations about compensation.  “Knowing what you value will help you identify what you want from your role, and that might look different for everyone.  For some, it might be more income or advancement, but for others, it might be more paid time off or a different work/life balance.”

“That will drive your salary, advancement, and development, because you know what your personal goals are,” she said to WBJ. “That’s been a very difficult struggle for some of the people I’ve worked with – figuring out which category they’re in.” 

Ms. Kalcik is a member of Lewis Brisbois' Labor & Employment and Complex Business & Commercial Litigation Practices. An experienced litigator and trial attorney, she represents a wide range of clients in a variety of matters, including complex civil litigation, commercial litigation, medical malpractice disputes, tort and personal injury actions, oil and gas litigation, employment disputes, class action claims, municipal law, financial services litigation, and consumer and mortgage finance law. She also provides employment counseling and pre-litigation advice to business entities.  

Ms. Kalcik was recently honored by WBJ at its "40 Under 40" Awards and in addition to inclusion in the prestigious group, she received the Pat Ayars Mentoring Award for her dedication to providing both formal and informal mentorship to the next generation of professionals. Ms. Kalcik is also a previous honoree of WBJ's Women Who Lead Legal (2021).  She recently participated in another WBJ Career Women event, discussing how for her, personal development has to be as intentional as her work as an attorney.
