Mark Oertel, Catherine Fiorentino to Speak at CLM Construction Conference
San Diego, Calif. (August 23, 2022) – Los Angeles Partner Mark A. Oertel and New York Partner Catherine J. Fiorentino will speak at the upcoming Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) Construction Conference, hosted at Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego on September 22.
Ms. Fiorentino will speak on a panel at 1:00 p.m. PT titled “Grave Expectations: Handling Complex Grave Injury Claims in Catastrophic Construction Accident Cases,” which will provide insights on cases involving traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) under New York Workers’ Compensation Law.
Mr. Oertel will join another panel at 2:30 p.m. PT titled “Insurance Policies vs. Surety Bonds: Similarities and Differences,” which will highlight the differences between insurance policies and surety bonds, the types of coverages shared, and those coverages that are distinct to either instrument. This panel will also include information on Subcontractor Default Insurance, which is growing rapidly in the construction insurance market.
Mr. Oertel is chair of Lewis Brisbois' Surety and Fidelity Practices, and has more than 30 years of experience in the areas of surety, fidelity, insurance law, professional liability, construction, and commercial disputes. He handles contract surety disputes involving all phases of payment and performance bond claims, litigation and recovery, fidelity bond claims and employee dishonesty claims.
Ms. Fiorentino is a member of the General Liability Practice. With over 12 years of experience defending high exposure construction accident cases brought under the New York Labor Law, she has handled cases involving premises liability, negligent security, medical and professional malpractice, motor vehicle accident litigation, wrongful death, toxic torts, construction defect, and general tort liability.
