Mariela Cruz to Serve on U.S. Commission on Civil Rights for the State of Louisiana
New Orleans, La. (September 14, 2022) – New Orleans Associate Mariela Cruz was recently named an Advisory Committee Member on the United States Commission on Civil Rights for the State of Louisiana. She joins the 56 Advisory Committees that help the organization with a broad perspective on civil rights concerns at the state and local levels.
Established by The Civil Rights Act of 1957, The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is an independent, bipartisan, fact-finding federal agency dedicated to the development of national civil rights policy and enforcement of federal civil rights laws.
"As an immigrant, I understand the value of legal representation in its various forms," Ms. Cruz said. "The opportunity to serve in this committee is a great honor and responsibility towards the many groups that may benefit from this group effort."
Ms. Cruz is a member of the firm's General Liability Practice. Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, she assisted clients as plaintiffs and defendants in various areas of law. This background experience has assisted Mariela in becoming a better advocate for her clients and in understanding the complexities of all parties involved.
