Lewis Brisbois Signs Houston Bar Association Gender Fairness Pledge

Houston, Texas (April 25, 2019) – Lewis Brisbois has signed on to the Houston Bar Association (HBA) Gender Fairness Commitment Statement, which commits law firms and legal department to taking concrete actions to address gender inequality and promote policies and practices that achieve gender parity. The pledge grew out of the HBA’s Gender Fairness Initiative, launched in 2003.

Among the objectives the pledge asks participating organizations to achieve are: a material increase in the number of women in partnership or leadership positions; the development and implementation of objective and unbiased criteria and procedures for evaluating and promoting women attorneys to those leadership positions; and supporting processes to gain feedback from employees in regards to the advancement of women attorneys. It also calls for more formal and informal networking opportunities for women attorneys at all levels, and the availability of flexible work arrangements that present equitable and viable options for all.

“We’re very excited to support the endeavors of the Houston Bar that are so closely aligned with fundamental principles of our firm,” said Houston Partner Sarah Smith, who signed the pledge on behalf of Lewis Brisbois. “Promoting gender fairness in the legal profession has been a long-held endeavor of Lewis Brisbois, and the Houston office is committed to continuing this standard on a local level.”
