Lewis Brisbois' New Orleans Team to Present CaseExperts Webinar on The Defense Base Act

New Orleans, La. (April 20, 2023) – New Orleans Partner James W. Hailey, III, along with Associates Shiena Marie N. Burke and Mariela Cruz, will present at an upcoming webinar on the Defense Base Act (DBA), hosted by CaseExperts on May 17 at 11:00 a.m. ET.

This 2-hour presentation will focus on the DBA & War Hazards Compensation Act, an extension of the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA). This session will explore the relationship between the DBA and LHWCA, while providing claims adjusters with the knowledge and skills needed to work these specialized claims. CLE credits are available.

Mr. Hailey is a member of Lewis Brisbois’ Insurance Coverage Practice. He focuses on assisting insurance and corporate clients in detecting, deterring, and defeating fraud in construction, premises, transportation, and general litigation matters, including coverage. He is also an active member of the Louisiana Bar and sits on the state's Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee.

Ms. Burke is an Associate in the New Orleans office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Insurance Coverage & Bad Faith Litigation Practices. Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, Shiena Marie held a federal clerkship with the Department of Labor, Office of Administrative Law Judges for two years. She then moved to private practice to defend clients in Longshore, Defense Base Act and Black Lung litigation.

Ms. Cruz is a member of the firm's General Liability Practice. Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, she assisted clients as plaintiffs and defendants in various areas of law. This background experience has assisted Mariela in becoming a better advocate for her clients and in understanding the complexities of all parties involved.
