Lewis Brisbois’ New Orleans Team to Present at LCA Annual Educational Conference & Expo

New Orleans, La. (May 23, 2023) – New Orleans Partner John Alsobrook and Associate Shiena Marie N. Burke will present a seminar on black lung claims at the 29th annual Louisiana Claims Association conference, hosted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana from June 7-9, 2023 at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center.

This 60-minute seminar, titled "The Impact of Black Lung Claims on the Trucking Industry and Insurance Sectors,” will provide an overview of the complexities on this unique area of Federal Black Lung litigation. Coal miner pneumoconiosis (“Black Lung”) is a complex and unique area of federal workers’ compensation law, with impacts stretching further than the typical coal miner claim. The seminar will provide key insights on the expansive category of “coal miners,” and how the trucking industry is intertwined with an increase in federal black lung claims filed with the aging coal miner population.

Lewis Brisbois now offers Black Lung defense services as an expansion to the workers’ compensation practice group. The Black Lung Benefits Act (BLBA) provides monthly workers’ compensation benefits to coal miners and their survivors who are completely disabled as a result of black lung disease. Learn more about this new practice area here
