Lewis Brisbois Forms Specialized National Cargo & Logistics Practice

Phoenix, Ariz. (January 23, 2023) - Lewis Brisbois has formed a national Cargo & Logistics Practice, led by Phoenix Partner Julie E. Maurer, who also serves as National Co-Chair of the firm’s Transportation Practice as well as Co-Chair of the national Autonomous Vehicles Practice. Although attorneys in Lewis Brisbois’ broad Transportation Practice historically have managed an array of cargo and logistics matters for clients, the formation of this dedicated national Cargo & Logistics Practice allows for greater depth and focus in this important area – one that is essential in reducing businesses’ operational costs and improving efficiencies to all aspects of the supply chain, involving all modes of transport.

In discussing the newly formed practice, Ms. Maurer noted, “The formation of a national Cargo & Logistics Practice is an exciting development, particularly because of the full-service focus that it provides for our clients. It seemed only natural to create a specialized practice, as we continue to represent clients successfully in this area—nationally and worldwide. I look forward to the unique depth that this stand-alone practice will provide as our highly skilled attorneys continue to advise our clients in this specialized area.”

Under Ms. Maurer’s leadership, the attorneys who comprise the Cargo & Logistics Practice work with clients that operate in every transportation sphere, touching all points of the supply chain across the globe. From ground transportation – including trucks and trains – to airfreight and ocean carriage, members of the practice are well-positioned to achieve clients’ unique and varied business objectives. In addition to handling cargo and logistics matters as they arise, our lawyers routinely serve as national counsel for clients, providing ongoing consultation services and spearheading litigation across the country.

For example, Lewis Brisbois’ Cargo & Logistics Practice attorneys regularly advise on the following matters:

  • Transport of various types of commodities, and related litigation (e.g., freight/cargo, household goods, hazardous waste, agriculture, FDA/USDA regulated goods, exempt and non-exempt goods);
  • Warehousing (storage in transit and permanent storage) and self-storage;
  • Ocean vessel transit and port matters;
  • Contract drafting, review, and negotiations;
  • Contract disputes;
  • Ongoing consulting services;
  • Litigation related to commercial matters, freight collection, freight loss and cargo damage claims, among others;
  • Carrier lien disputes;
  • Regulatory guidance, including collection of tariffs and transportation charges; and
  • Transportation-related coverage issues.

The attorneys in Lewis Brisbois’ Cargo & Logistics Practice also work with the firm’s Transportation, Marine & Energy, Railroad, Aviation, as well as Corporate, and Complex Business & Commercial Litigation Practices to offer clients the full benefits of Lewis Brisbois’ nationwide network and wide range of practice areas.
