Lewis Brisbois Attorneys From Denver, Washington, D.C. to Speak at CBA Employment Law Conference
Denver, Colo. (September 25, 2020) - Denver Partner Jon Olafson and Associates Shawna Ruetz and Joshua Kohler, along with Washington, D.C. Managing Partner Katherine Funk, will speak at the Colorado Bar Association’s (CBA) Employment Law Conference that is scheduled to take place over the course of three upcoming Tuesdays – September 29, October 6, and October 13, 2020. The virtual conference, which is presented by the Labor and Employment Law Section of the CBA, will address specific employment law updates for the current COVID-19 environment and will offer helpful and timely insights for labor and employment law practitioners of varying levels and industries.
As an organizer of the conference, Ms. Ruetz will deliver opening remarks on September 29 and October 6, at 12:30 p.m. MT.
On September 29 at 3:30 p.m. CT, Ms. Funk will present on the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Her discussion will address what employers need to know when applying for loan forgiveness, and will explain the changes to the process since the program launched in April.
Mr. Kohler will participate in an on-demand session available on October 6 titled “Labor and Employment Law Nuts and Bolts: For New Attorneys and Those New to the Practice.” During this program, Mr. Kohler will address common defenses to employment claims in Colorado and will provide practice pointers for newer attorneys. Additionally, on October 13 at 11:30 a.m. MT, Mr. Kohler will take part in the "New Lawyer Lunch Club," an interactive networking lunch experience.
On October 13 at 3:00 p.m. MT, Mr. Olafson will lead a session titled “Attorneys Behaving Badly,” during which he will discuss the ethical considerations of, and attorney behavior during, depositions. Ethics credits will be available.
Ms. Funk is a member of Lewis Brisbois’ Antitrust & Competition Practice, and serves as the primary contact for the firm's COVID-19: Consumer Protection/Price Fixing/Price Gouging team. A trusted advisor to corporate executives and in-house legal departments, she has more than 25 years of experience successfully navigating antitrust and business issues on behalf of clients in a range of industries.
Mr. Olafson is a member of Lewis Brisbois’ Labor & Employment Practice. He regularly counsels business clients on a variety of regulatory and dispute resolution matters involving complicated wage and hour issues and business and corporate compliance. Mr. Olafson was recently appointed to CBA's Executive Council and serves as the Labor & Employment Section representative to the CBA Board of Governors
Ms. Ruetz and Mr. Kohler are also members of Lewis Brisbois’ Labor & Employment Practice. They represent employers before administrative agencies and in all aspects of employment counseling and litigation in both federal and state courts. Ms. Ruetz was recently appointed as the employer-side co-chair of the CBA's Labor & Employment Law Section Executive Council for the 2020-2021 term
