Kathryn Honecker Contributes to American Bar Association Publication on The Class Action Fairness Act
Phoenix, Ariz. (August 4, 2022) – Phoenix Partner Kathryn Honecker was a contributing author to the second edition of The Class Action Fairness Act: Law and Strategy, an American Bar Association (ABA) publication for plaintiff and defense counsel that provides an in-depth look into the Class Action Fairness Act of 2005 (“CAFA”).
The first edition of the publication received positive reviews from industry professionals, who recommended the series of flowcharts preceding the introduction, “CAFA At A Glance,” which were created by Ms. Honecker. According to Charles S. Fax, a senior attorney and contributor to the ABA, these charts are an effective visual aid to help understand the material.
"Graphics are one of the best features of the book, effectively enhancing the material's accessibility,” said Mr. Fax in an ABA review. “Contributor Kathryn Honecker . . . has prepared an ingeniously simple set of charts that graphically portray CAFA diversity jurisdiction, mandatory and permissive exceptions to CAFA jurisdiction, and exclusions thereto. Thus the reader can find the information sought on these topics in a matter of seconds."
Ms. Honecker is a member of the Class Action & Mass Tort and Professional Liability Practices and previously cochaired the ABA Section of Litigation’s Class Actions & Derivative Suits Committee and Consumer Litigation Committee. Throughout her career, she has represented parties in many types of class actions, including consumer, securities, insurance, post-secondary education, data breach, antitrust, discrimination, and employment. Ms. Honecker has authored numerous articles concerning class actions and was a contributing author to another well-reviewed class action book published by the ABA, Class Action Strategy & Practice Guide, which provides practical guidance to lawyers on how to litigate a class action.
