Jonathan Goins Speaks with Daily Report About Growing Entertainment Practice in Georgia

Atlanta, Ga. (October 21, 2021) - Atlanta Partner and Co-Chair of Lewis Brisbois' Intellectual Property & Technology Group Jonathan D. Goins recently spoke with the Daily Report (part of about establishing a robust entertainment law practice in Georgia as the number of media projects in the state increases.

In an article titled "How IP Attorney Jonathan Goins Leveraged 'Hollywood of the South' to Develop His Niche Practice," Mr. Goins told the Daily Report how his practice has grown in recent years to handle litigation on a range of IP issues, from clearances of fictitious names to the approval of product placements. The increased workload for his practice has resulted in more referrals and a growing list of celebrity clients.

"Georgia is certainly the Hollywood of the South," said Mr. Goins. "With that comes potential legal issues that arise. I’ve been able to develop a niche as a go-to IP attorney in Georgia. … My business and my practice and my clients have doubled in the span of just a few years.”

Mr. Goins also acknowledged the advantage of "being in the right place at the right time," noting that “Traditionally, a lot of your major entertainment companies have had long-standing relationships with law firms in California and New York, but not necessarily Georgia.” However, Lewis Brisbois' size and nationwide network have allowed Mr. Goins to scale up his practice.

“Lewis Brisbois has offices in New York and California,” Mr. Goins said. “That triangular geographical platform has been advantageous to me here in Atlanta. It allows me to be able to pull in resources and additional staffing for a lot of these matters that I’ve been able to work on.”

Mr. Goins also noted how COVID-19 has added another dimension to his work, with occasional outbreaks halting production timelines and providing artists and entertainers with a chance to focus on personal projects that may require IP guidance.

“When production or other short term business endeavors are temporarily halted, it gives talent and creative artists a little more time to also devote attention to their brand,” said Mr. Goins, which ultimately brings in more IP opportunities for him and his practice.

With over 18 years of experience, Mr. Goins serves as lead counsel in IP litigation across the country, including “bet the company” cases with multimillion-dollar exposure. He is consistently ranked in peer-recognitions and publications for his expertise in intellectual property, including being named among the world’s leading trademark professionals for the fourth consecutive year in the annual World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000. Mr. Goins was recently quoted in another Daily Report article about a favorable decision in a Netflix intellectual property dispute.
