John Hackett Appointed Associate Judge for Third Judicial Circuit of Illinois’ Madison and Bond Counties

Madison County, Ill. (May 21, 2024) - Lewis Brisbois is pleased to announce that Madison County, Illinois Attorney John Hackett has been appointed to the bench as an Associate Judge of the Third Judicial Circuit, Madison and Bond Counties, Illinois.

The Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts announced his appointment on May 20, 2024.

Mr. Hackett began his career with Lewis Brisbois as a Summer Associate his second year of law school at St. Louis University School of Law. He continued to work at Lewis Brisbois during the day and attend law school at night through his third year of law school and the Missouri and Illinois bar examinations.

Mr. Hackett has handled a variety of important matters at the firm, ranging from complex litigation for the Toxic Tort & Environmental Litigation group to the intense and demanding practice of municipal law in Southern Illinois.

Mr. Hackett had this to say about his time at Lewis Brisbois: “I am incredibly proud of the work I was able to do with my colleagues throughout the country at this law firm. The opportunities to practice law alongside some of the best lawyers in the nation are endless here. My career is a testament to that. But most importantly, it starts with your home office. I’d put this team in Madison County up against anybody. These are hard-charging lawyers, supporting each other, with leadership that makes the impossible, possible. I will reflect fondly on my time here, as I prepare to join the Court.”

Jeff Bash, Managing Partner of the Madison County Office and Chair of the firm’s National Asbestos Practice Group, says “John Hackett has earned his place on the bench. His character is uncompromising, that is a given, but his work-ethic is difficult to duplicate. This is a guy that takes every chance he gets to do just a little bit more, whether that be for a client, for a colleague, or for the firm. We are going to miss his quiet wisdom, mentoring, and steady hand. The Circuit Courts of Madison and Bond County will benefit from that now, and we couldn’t be prouder of him.”

Mr. Hackett will be sworn in on August 5, 2024.
