Jenny Michel to Present at IIL Webinar on Marine and Energy Litigation

New Orleans, La. (October 29, 2021) - New Orleans and Lafayette Managing Partner Jennifer E. Michel will present at The Insurance Institute of London's (IIL) upcoming webinar about marine and energy litigation on November 9 at 4:00 p.m. ET.

In this informative 60-minute session, Ms. Michel will provide an overview of recent marine and energy litigation in the United States, including the recent phenomenon of social inflation. This increase of ‘runaway’ jury verdicts relative to economic inflation has been driven by "Reptile Theory" tactics utilized by plaintiffs' attorneys, desensitization to large sums of money by the public, and growing anti-corporate sentiment. Ms. Michel will also address possible steps to combat social inflation, such as trial techniques and tightened additional insured provisions

IIL's mission is to cultivate knowledge and information in all matters relating to the various branches of insurance, and the organization supports insurance education and professional development through its lectures, visits programs, journals, and research.

Ms. Michel is the chair of Lewis Brisbois' Marine & Energy Practice, and co-chair of its London Market Group and Pollution Legal Liability/Environmental Impairment Liability (PLL/EIL) Practices. She has extensive experience in negotiation and litigation involving marine and energy contracts, including defense, indemnity, and additional insured demands, as well as a variety of first and third party coverage and bad faith matters. Her practice is focused in Louisiana and Texas.
