Emma Pelkey to Speak at AHLA Long Term Care Conference on Federal Funding for Mental Health Treatment

Portland, Ore. (January 12, 2022) – Portland Partner Emma Pelkey will speak at the upcoming American Health Law Association (AHLA) Long Term Care and the Law conference on federal funding for mental health treatment, hosted at the Renaissance Hotel in Orlando on February 24 at 8:00 a.m. ET.  

In this informative 60-minute session titled "The IMD Exclusion and Federal Funding for Mental Health Treatment," Ms. Pelkey and her co-presenter will provide a background on the IMD (institutions for mental disease) Exclusion, changes to the provision by the 21st Century Cures Act, and other legislative and regulatory actions in response to the opioid epidemic. They will also discuss Medicaid waiver opportunities for long-term care mental health treatment and funding opportunities for skilled nursing facilities providing behavioral health services. CLE credits are available. 

Ms. Pelkey is a member of Lewis Brisbois’ Healthcare, Labor & Employment, and Healthcare, Regulatory & Compliance Practices. She focuses her practice on healthcare litigation and health law, including behavioral health, provider issues, medical liability, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, she represents employers regarding a wide range of employment law issues, including discrimination and harassment, wage and hour, disability accommodations, and terminations. She previously co-authored an AHLA article on federal funding for mental health treatment.
