Donavan Eason Receives Award of Achievement From State Bar of Georgia

Savannah, Ga. (June 16, 2021) - Savannah Associate Donavan K. Eason recently received the Award of Achievement for Service to the Bar from the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the State Bar of Georgia. This honor recognizes Mr. Eason’s extensive work with the YLD, particularly with respect to his disaster relief efforts.

Since last summer, Mr. Eason has served as Chairperson of the YLD's Committee on Disaster Legal Assistance. This committee manages a disaster relief hotline and connects callers affected by disasters with volunteer attorneys who then assist, at no charge, with matters arising from the disasters, including insurance, wills, and repair contracts. The hotline operates pursuant to a program orchestrated by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the American Bar Association (ABA). Mr. Eason’s committee has conducted outreach efforts throughout rural Georgia to assist farmers who are impacted by, among other events, hurricanes and tornadoes.

“Bringing families some closure in the midst of a natural disaster is something lawyers have the unique ability to provide,” Mr. Eason said of his disaster relief work. “People want to know that they have investigated every possible avenue of assistance and relief when everything else falls apart around them. We can be that assurance to help them get back on their feet.”

Mr. Eason’s award was announced at the YLD Dinner, which was held as part of the State Bar of Georgia’s Annual Meeting on June 11.

Mr. Eason is a member of Lewis Brisbois’ General Liability, Transportation, and Hospitality Practices. He regularly defends actions pertaining to premises liability, automobile/trucking liability, and product liability. Mr. Eason was recently selected to participate in the 2021 YLD Leadership Academy of the State Bar of Georgia, and also recently published an article for Georgia Defense Lawyer.
