Derek Dittmar to Speak at NCADA Meeting & Judicial Candidates’ Forum

Raleigh, N.C. (June 6, 2024) – Raleigh Associate Derek J. Dittmar will speak on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys (NCADA) 47th Annual Meeting & 2024 Judicial Candidates’ Forum, hosted in Asheville on June 15 at 11:00 a.m. ET.

This 45-minute informative session, targeted at state and local entities, is titled “Breaking Down State and Local Entities’ Online Obligations Under the Americans with Disabilities Act.” Mr. Dittmar will cover the DOJ's requirements, exceptions, and practical steps to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities. 

The new DOJ regulations apply under Title II which applies to state and local governments, and the DOJ estimates that almost 110,000 state and local governments’ digital offerings will be impacted across the nation by the new rule. Mr. Dittmar, who is blind, will share his legal expertise and personal insights on navigating digital spaces with assistive technology.

Mr. Dittmar is a member of the General Liability Practice and a member of the ADA litigation subgroup. He holds the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) certification on disability accessibility from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals, and commonly speaks, writes, and consults on issues of disability accessibility, accommodation, and best practices.
