Blair Dawson Receives CIPP/US Certification, Strengthening Lewis Brisbois’ Data Privacy Practice

Chicago, Ill. (December 15, 2021) – Chicago Partner Blair Dawson recently passed the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) exam, adding to Lewis Brisbois’ growing roster of attorneys in its Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice with a CIPP certification. 

The CIPP/US is an ANSI/ISO accredited program administered the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) that covers U.S. privacy regulations, the limits on private-sector collection and use of data, government and court access to private-sector information, and a host of various workplace and state privacy laws. IAPP certifications are considered the global industry standard for data privacy professionals. To obtain such a certification, an attorney must complete training classes, with a minimum of 30 hours of study, and pass a challenging exam.

“I had so much fun with this program – I’m already excited to start the next one,” said Ms. Dawson. “Having the expertise that comes with obtaining this certification is of increasing importance to our clients, and I look forward to adding to the knowledge-based strength of our Data Privacy & Cybersecurity team."  

Lewis Brisbois now has over two dozen members with one or more IAPP certifications.

Ms. Dawson's practice is focused on assisting clients in responding to data security incidents while complying with state data breach notification requirements and federal regulations. She has decades of experience in the domestic and London insurance markets assessing the intricacies of coverage for clients, including maximizing coverage under cyber insurance policies as well as acting as claims monitoring counsel for clients.
