Angeline Ioannou, Pamela Ferguson to Moderate Panels at Crittenden Medical Insurance Conference

Miami, Fl. (August 13, 2021) – Hartford Managing Partner Angeline Ioannou and San Francisco Partner Pamela Ferguson will moderate panels at the upcoming Crittenden Medical Insurance Conference hosted at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami from September 26-28.  

In a session on Monday, September 27 at 2:30 p.m., titled “Opioid Litigation: An Update on Emerging Trends, Liability, Risk Management and Coverage Issues Involving Medical Providers and the Pharmaceutical Industry,” Ms. Ferguson will lead a discussion on insurance coverage implications, claims management considerations, and prescriber negligence. She will be joined by PJ Cosgrove (Partner - Life Sciences, Ulmer Berne), Sonia M. Valdes (Vice President - Claims, Medmarc Insurance Company), and Mike Severyn (HCPL Claims Executive, ProAssurance).

Ms. Ferguson is vice-chair of the Products Liability, Class Action, and Life Sciences Practices, and focuses on the defense of complex multi-party litigation involving prescription drug and medical device products liability and toxic tort litigation. She has defended corporate clients, manufacturers of drug and medical devices, retailers and suppliers in a wide variety of litigation with heavy emphasis on class action litigation involving consumer related e-commerce matters, including unfair and deceptive business practices, and alleged violations of state and federal statutes covering a wide variety of topics. 

In a session on Tuesday, September 28 at 9:00 a.m., titled “Are Healthcare Providers Fully Immunized from COVID-19 Liability,” Ms. Ioannou will lead a discussion on what the CARES Act covers, how states’ executive orders are operating to bar liability from claims and the exceptions to liability immunity. She will be joined by claims specialists Alona Croteau (Chief Claims Officer - Specialty & Surety, Cap Specialty), Robert Tighe (Senior Claims Specialist, Coverys), and Richard Moore (Shareholder, Bleeke Dillon Crandall Attorneys). 

Ms. Ioannou is a member of the Healthcare and General Liability Practices, and has more than 20 years of litigation experience. She has extensive practice defending complex tort and commercial liability claims involving wrongful death and catastrophic injuries, and professional malpractice claims on behalf of nursing homes, physicians, and nurses. She frequently writes and lectures on long-term care issues, and is an active member of the Connecticut Assisted Living Association.
