Carrie also spends considerable time working with healthcare professionals confronting investigations into alleged fraudulent billing including defense of False Claims Act cases.

In addition to healthcare professionals, Carries also represents lawyers, accountants, real estate brokers, and other licensed professionals in litigation and licensing board matters.

She utilizes the perspectives of an experienced trial lawyer to assist clients including professionals, businesses and municipalities in risk assessment and management. Carrie works to understand each client’s individual goals and priorities and develops strategies to obtain the best possible outcome whether that means a jury verdict or resolution through alternative dispute resolution.

Carrie Meigs understands that each of her clients is unique and partners with them to develop and implement a plan to obtain a successful outcome. She started her practice in 1998 at a small insurance defense firm in eastern North Carolina following her graduation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She gained significant trial experience in general liability matters, acting as lead counsel in dozens of jury trials. In 2000, Carrie joined the firm of Patterson, Dilthey, Clay and Bryson in Raleigh and became a partner in 2005. While there, she began representing health care providers in medical malpractice cases and gained particular experience handling birth injury cases. In 2008, she joined another defense firm in Raleigh as a partner where she continued an active trial practice and also began handling administrative law matters. Throughout her practice, Carrie has developed a practice focused on representing professionals and businesses in complex litigation and catastrophic property and injury claims. Her experience and expertise as a trial lawyer has been recognized by her admission to the American Board of Trial Advocates.

She frequently works with hospitals, physicians, dentists, nurses, governmental bodies, and municipalities in complex cases involving constitutional claims and issues of governmental and public officers’ immunity.

Carrie also provides guidance to business owners on issues including risk avoidance and management and contract matters.
