Associate

Svetlana McManus is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice.

Svetlana has experience managing emergency breach response efforts including coordinating digital forensic investigations of data security incidents, determining breach notification obligations, and overseeing implementation of remediation efforts. She has counseled clients on reasonable cyber security requirements; obligations under federal and state privacy and data security regulations; and compliance with requirements imposed by privacy and data security laws to include GDPR, CCPA, HITECH/HIPAA Security Rule and PCI DSS. Svetlana has also composed comprehensive information security governance programs for clients including drafting applicable security policies such as Written Information Security Programs, Incident Response Plans, Disaster Recovery, Data Classification, and Access Control.

Svetlana is fluent in Russian and, through the NSA, served as a Senior Cryptologic Russian Language Analyst with the United States Air Force where she identified, characterized, and reported on international cyber-criminal activities and methods to protect U.S. interests. She has co-authored two publications: "Recent Developments in Cybersecurity…What You Don’t Know Will Hurt You," Blog (Feb. 2019), reprinted by Westlaw (Feb. 2019), and “Reasonable Security – The Myth of the CCPA Safe Harbor," Blog (May 2019). Svetlana also regularly volunteers with the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless and National Veterans Legal Services Program.
