Nicholas Martin

Partner

Nicholas is a partner in the Madison County, Illinois, office of Lewis Brisbois and is a member of the General Liability Practice. Nicholas focuses on premises liability, automobile liability, and insurance law. He has experience in all aspects of litigation, including trial experience and appellate practice. And he has experience advising and representing national insurance companies in declaratory actions on coverage issues involving interpretation and litigation of commercial general liability and automobile liability policies.

During law school, Nicholas served as the Survey Editor-in-Chief and as a member of the Executive Committee for the Southern Illinois University Law Journal. He also had two articles selected for publication:

  1. All is Fair in Law and Warfare in the Ukrainian Crisis: A Look at the Growing Increase of Economic Sanctions as a Weapon of War and the Effects on the International Community, 40 S. ILL. UNIV. L.J. 323 (2015).
  2. Will the Real Foreign Official Please Stand up: Determining Who is a Foreign Official After United States v. Esquenazi, 40 S. ILL. UNIV. L.J. 91 (2015).

In addition to his work with the Law Journal, he was a Taylor Mattis Fellow and completed an externship with the Honorable Justice Lloyd Karmeier of the Illinois Supreme Court. Nicholas lives in St. Louis with his wife and their two spoiled cats.

  • Gould v. Collins, No. 20-L-1295, Madison County, Illinois (August 2023) – awarded summary judgment in favor of client in significant personal injury action.
  • Jacoby v. Evetts, No. 21-L-2, Johnson County Illinois (January 2023) – secured verdict for 1% of the amount plaintiff requested the jury award.
