Karen Luh is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Labor & Employment Practice. She represents employers in all areas of employment litigation defense, with a focus on claims under the Fair Employment and Housing Act, Labor Code violations, and disposition of class actions. She regularly appears before the Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission and Labor Commission.
Karen guides clients through all phases of the litigation process including discovery, deposition, mediation, arbitration, jury and court trials, and appeals. In addition, she routinely counsels employers on general employment policies and procedures, drafting of employment and separation agreements, employee handbooks and employee terminations.
Her comprehensive experience includes representation of public and private sector employers in a variety of industries, including amusement parks, cosmetics, food and beverage, healthcare, hospitality, entertainment, manufacturing, media, non-profit organizations, and retail; in actions for retaliation, wrongful termination, breach of employment agreement, defamation, wage and hour violations, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Karen has prevailed on motions for summary judgment and for summary adjudication, disposing of employment cases in their entirety. She prepares cases for and participates in trial, as well as posturing cases towards favorable settlement. She also has significant experience litigating wage and hour class actions in California for major manufacturing companies.
She was a member of the Appellate Moot Court Executive Board and the Appellate Moot Court National Team for the University of San Diego School of Law. Karen has been named a 2014–2016 Super Lawyer Rising Star, a distinction is awarded to no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in a state. She is fluent in Mandarin, Spanish, and Italian.
