Tom Kinan


Tom Kinan is an associate in the Walnut Creek and Los Angeles offices of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the General Liability and Construction Practices.

Tom represents major insurance companies on a national scale in insurance litigation. His clientele ranges from small, family-owned establishments to global hotel chains and large corporations in various claims related to general and professional liability, advertising injury, personal injury, product liability, bodily injury, property, and toxic torts claims. Tom’s experience has allowed him to become well versed at every stage of litigation, beginning from claim-handling issues to civil and expert discovery, alternative dispute resolution, pre-trial motion practice, dispositive motions, and assistance in trial preparation. 

Tom also has extensive experience representing civil, industrial, commercial, and residential developers and general contractors in construction disputes. With a background in construction, Tom handles various levels of construction ranging from single-family home construction to large-scale Common Interest Developments. Tom’s experience has been utilized in a wide range of matters including contract issues, project delay and/or disruption, loss of use, deficient quality, personal injury, and negligent supervision claims. In addition to litigation, Tom has also provided transactional services, business consulting, and client-carrier presentations on a variety of subjects including best practices, landlord-tenant, master contract provisions, and consultation of SB800 otherwise known as California's “Right To Repair.”

During law school, Tom clerked for the Honorable Maria-Elena James in United States District Court for the Northern District of California. In his final year, Tom also served as research assistant for Professor Helen. Y. U. Chang for the publication “A Brief History of Anglo-Western Suicide: From Legal Wrong to Civil Right.”

In his personal life, Tom enjoys surfing, snowboarding, and spending time with his wife and dogs.
