Jarred Reed

Associate

Jarred Reed is an Associate in the Madison County office of Lewis Brisbois who has been with the firm since 2021. Jarred represents individuals as well as businesses, ranging from family-owned to Fortune 500 national and multinational corporations. He concentrates his litigation practice in the areas of premises liability, product liability, toxic tort, environmental, transportation, general negligence, and business practices litigation.

Jarred primarily focuses his practice in federal and state courts in Illinois and Missouri. Jarred is admitted to the State Bars of Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and the District of Columbia. He is also admitted into the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois; U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois; U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri; U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri; and U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. 

While in law school, Jarred was awarded the Julian Blackshear, Jr. Outstanding Student Award and served as Captain of the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Team. Jarred has recently served as the first African-American President of his high school’s alumni association. Jarred also currently serves as a Board Member of Helping Hand Me Downs, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhance the quality of life for children and families in the St. Louis area by meeting their immediate needs, then connecting them with life-changing resources that foster independence. 

In 2023, Jarred was named to the National Black Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40” list for a second consecutive year. The National Black Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40” list recognizes talented black attorneys who have met rigorous selection criteria including having an outstanding reputation among peers, the judiciary and the public, and notable achievements, settlements, and verdicts as a lawyer.

Professional Experience

Asbestos, Toxic Tort & Environmental Litigation

Jarred has defended toxic tort and environmental litigation claims, including a substantial number of asbestos and talc lawsuits, throughout his legal career. He has participated in all phases of the defense of these matters, from initial discovery through dispositive motions, expert discovery, and settlement negotiations.

Jarred has also assisted as national counsel to companies involved in both premises and product liability claims related to alleged asbestos and chemical exposures. In those roles, Jarred coordinated national defense issues and served as trial counsel. 

Premises Liability

Jarred has successfully defended property owners and major retail, commercial, residential, food processing, and industrial companies in premises liability claims involving personal injury and wrongful death in Illinois and Missouri. 

Product Liability

Jarred has represented a number of manufacturers, distributors, and retailers in product liability actions involving a wide variety of products, including automotive parts, food services, and chemicals. He has defended against allegations of spoliation, product design defect, and failure to warn, among others. 

Transportation

Jarred has defended and advised trucking companies and companies with fleets of delivery vehicles. He has represented these entities in all aspects of litigation, including claims involving personal injury and death. 

General Negligence

Jarred has handled numerous cases and advised clients in matters involving allegations of construction defects, animal control liability, and general liability claims. Jarred recently obtained dismissal for a local family accused of allowing their dogs to cause emotional distress for an alleged attack. 

Business Practices Litigation

Jarred also has a robust and successful consumer and commercial collection practice focusing mainly on construction clients. With this practice, Jarred has successfully served as first-chair in bench trials across Illinois and Missouri. With recent changes to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Jarred has advised clients needing an experienced advocate who understands the law and how it can be utilized to maximize recovery of bad debt.
