Dean Jarmel

Associate

Dean Jarmel is an associate in the New York office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the General Liability Practice.

Dean has over 25 years of tort and commercial litigation experience in state and federal courts throughout the country. Prior to coming to Lewis Brisbois, Dean was a litigation partner in a highly regarded national law firm, where he acted as national defense counsel for several manufacturers in "bet the company" product liability lawsuits. He has litigated hundreds of complex product liability cases, including personal injury suits brought by individuals, national class actions, and third-party reimbursement suits brought by states for medical cost recovery. Dean has also litigated commercial, antitrust, consumer fraud, contract and FCPA cases.

Dean’s experience covers every aspect of civil litigation, including the preparation of company executives for deposition and trial testimony; the development of expert witnesses with respect to medical, scientific and consumer behavior issues; taking the depositions of fact and expert witnesses; trial defense; and preparing and arguing numerous appeals in state and federal courts. In one nationally prominent case, Dean acted as lead trial counsel in Rogers v. The American Tobacco Company, a wrongful death action for smoking-related injuries tried to a defense verdict in Indiana state court.

In addition to his domestic civil litigation experience, Dean spent five years in London acting as lead international counsel for one of the world’s largest consumer product companies. In this role, he was responsible for the retention, training and supervision of national counsels throughout the world in defense of product liability lawsuits, and for preparing substantive defenses to such suits.
