Kevin J. Hermanson is a partner in the Walnut Creek office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the General Liability and Transportation Practices.

Mr. Hermanson started his career as a litigator and trial attorney in 2005. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Hermanson was employed as a claims adjuster before and throughout law school. Since launching his legal career in 2005, Mr. Hermanson became an equity partner with a defense firm in 2008, and in 2010 facilitated the opening of the first Northern California staff counsel operation for Progressive Insurance Company. Mr. Hermanson served as the managing attorney for Progressive’s Northern California staff counsel operation until 2015, at which point he excelled his career in the years following at Nationwide and Liberty Mutual. 

Mr. Hermanson specializes in high-exposure catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases, including commercial and personal lines. He has successfully defended dozens of jury trials, binding arbitrations, and bench trials to verdict. All of Mr. Hermanson’s jury trials have been first chair, and all have resulted in favorable verdicts for his clients. Within a month of joining Lewis, Brisbois, Mr. Hermanson parachuted into an admitted liability case on behalf of a business owner where plaintiff’s claims included traumatic brain injury and a forehead laceration that required sutures. At the conclusion of this four-week jury trial in San Francisco, Mr. Hermanson obtained a $1,000.00 unanimous verdict. Plaintiff’s demand at trial was $6.8 million. Post-trial, Mr. Hermanson obtained a costs judgment against the plaintiff in excess of $150,000.00. As an organizational leader, Mr. Hermanson specializes in attorney growth and retention, relationship building, improving organizational efficiency, delivery of quality cost effective legal services in compliance with performance metrics, and data analytics.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hermanson has proactively litigated and accurately evaluated a wide variety of first and third party catastrophic injury, wrongful death, premises liability, and property and casualty cases on behalf of various commercial and personal lines clients. Mr. Hermanson collaboratively develops and implements practices and procedures to ensure superior cost-effective legal representation with his clients and claims organizations. With respect to his commercial clients, Mr. Hermanson strongly advocates for the company’s position in a variety of situations while striking appropriate balance between limiting risk and preserving the company’s valued relationships with customers.
